膜式空氣彈簧的構造是在金屬外筒與內筒,或缸筒與活塞之間安放橡膠膜,通過膜的變型成功實現整體伸縮。在外筒的內壁與內筒的外壁上預先給出合適的傾斜或球面,據此橡膠膜伸縮時可沿該壁面發發生災難形,受壓最簡單的面或物體表面的大小隨變型而變化。這就可以得到在定額高度下很軟,而在大位移時變硬的尤其的性質,即合適的非線性彈性尤其的性質。膜式空氣彈簧又分為約束膜式和自由膜式。
